It's official! We are going to be participating in the next season of CTV's Calgary-based "reality tv" renovation show, Remodel It! This means we get to work with a prominent Calgary designer/builder (The Remodelers) to transform our cold, bare concrete and pink fibreglass basement into a living space that helps accommodate our growing family.
In exchange for being on the show, our renovation will not only speed along in conjunction with the show's production schedule, but it will also receive some "extra touches" and "upgrades" courtesy of the show's sponsors and suppliers.
We never set out to be on this show -- we were just phoning around to learn more about the different companies in town who could help us with our basement. Shortly after new year's, we happened to meet Bruce Hopkins, owner of The Remodelers. We had a friendly and informative chat with him in our basement one evening. He shared lots of great ideas for improving our rough floorplan and we liked what we heard. Before we knew it, he offered to include us in the show and here we are! We wanted to get this project done quickly, but we weren't expecting it to be THIS quick.
We know this will add a lot of value to our home, both while we're living in it and if we ever decide to sell it. And we know that hundreds of Calgarians would love to be in our shoes, so we're excited and grateful for the opportunity. (Thanks Bruce!)
We also expect to learn a lot about home design and building, meet many experienced and talented people, and have a bit of an adventure along the way by participating behind-the-scenes in a popular TV series.
In this blog I will share some of the things we learn as well as some of the experiences we have with the "reality" show.
I encourage participation on the comment boards -- please do ask questions and add your comments at the bottom of each post if you're thinking about a basement development of your own, if you're a current or prospective client of The Remodellers, if you're a fellow participant on the Remodel It! show (past or present), or if you're just an interested friend.
Congratulations! I know you will love working with the Remodelers. We are at the drywall stage now and can't wait to have it to be completed!
ReplyDeleteWe're having fun so far... we're still a long way from drywall though.
